Located in a transition area between the coastal flatlands and the mountainous inland of central Portugal, the county of Vale de Cambra is characterized by its verdant landscape and fertile fields which produce the greatest richness of the region: milk and dairy products.

At the seat of the county, Vale de Cambra, it is worth admiring the 18th-century pillory and stone cross, the Roman bridge and the Mother Church.

At the parish of Castelões, there is also a pretty medieval bridge and the Mother Church in the Baroque style exhibits rich gilded woodwork.

Equally Baroque are the beautiful stone cross of Rôge and the doorway of the Church of Arões.

Across the county, visitors will find several traditional villages with houses topped by typical schist roofs, such as at the village of Lomba, near Arões.

The fertile valley of Cambra, formed by the river Caima and its affluents, also shelters vast stretches of woods and vineyards producing a fine local vinho verde.

In contrast, the inland of Vale de Cambra is characterized by a mountainous scenery where granite and schist predominate together with forests and meadows crossed by streams flowing down to the fertile fields.

The county's traditional handicrafts offer beautiful works in linen and typical basketry.

As for the gastronomy of Vale de Cambra, visitors will find a delicious roast veal and cozido à portuguesa (a variety of meats, sausages and vegetables), the cured ham, cheese and sausages of the mountainous zone and the excellent vinho verde.
