Located in the region of the river Sousa valley, predominantly agricultural and characterized by its bucolic sceneries, the seat of the county of Paços de Ferreira proudly bears the title of «Capital of Furniture», due to its enterprising industry and commerce of furniture and fittings in wood.

At the town, it is worth visiting the church of the Monastery of São Pedro de Ferreira, from the 12th century, in a rural Romanesque style, the pillory and the Municipal Museum.

However, the county's main treasure is the archaeological station of the Iron Age citadel of Citânia de Sanfins, one of the most important in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula and dating from the 2nd century BC.

The escavated zone displays a triple ring of defensive walls surrounding about 150 constructions which occupy an area of more than 15 hectares. There is also a small museum on the hilltop citadel.

Another site of archaeological interest is Castro da Vila, also an Iron Age fortress, near the Serra da Agrela mountain.

The county is rich in etnographical terms, having preserved a legacy of traditions, folklore music and dancing, religious practices and characteristic handicrafts which stimulate the local production and consumption.
